Blues songs - The simplicity of writing a new blues song?????

Whilst I am say at home recovering ( blood clot) I have toyed with the idea of writing my own blues song. Ok, yes I know this should be easy? blues songs seem so simple? This should be a piece of cake shouldn't it???

Riff wise, I have some killer riffs (well, killer according to moi - Big Al) playing these at different tempos, trying to make them sound moody and mysterious but trying to keep a hook, something that will draw in the listener to want to hear more etc.

Ok, so I think I have a tune, now its lyric time and this is the hard bit.....don't want to try and sound like some story of drinking, philandering, morose, my baby left me type song etc.....so what on earth do I write???? I now have a total mental block.....nothing is there, no story, nothing whatsoever!!!! 

I admire these guys who can just lay down fantastic and catchy lyrics, it is an absolute art form and I am now struck by the green eyed monster. Maybe the lyric side of writing a song is just not for me? maybe I should push it out to cyberspace and ask somebody to pen me some lyrics to "Down at the Junkyard" or "The Preachers Blues"....this I think is the easier option........

If there is anybody out there that can pen me some catchy, beautiful, heart felt lyrics then I will be so blooming chuffed!.......

Junkyard Preachers - Peace, Harmony and Perfection!

OK, admit it, I have probably got your attention by my quirky title? 

Being in a band has taught me a lot of things. Firstly, I joined a band for fun, to play music with like minded guys and to please an audience - that is the buzz you get - from playing live. I will never make enough money from it to retire that is an absolute 100% fact. I admit there are times where I totally live and breathe Junkyard Preachers but I still want to have fun, get out there and play.

You need to get on with your band mates, value their opinions and do not be dismissive of suggested song choices - try new songs, see if it works, you may probably get to like it. If it doesn't, be honest but not difficult or self-opinionated.

Junkyard have now changed over 15 songs from their previous set - there is a sure win formula, you have to give your audience what they want sometimes. Keep them happy, get them on their feet. We have varied the songs, different tempos, not 12 bar after 12 bar and tried to keep a run of killer songs at the end of the set.

I have worked with some fantastic people over the years and thank everyone of them. This Junkyard line up is now right and everyone is really enjoying it!

Perfection - God, I used to be so difficult in the early days of Junkyard, always listening out for the wrong note, poor starts or finishes. My band mates must have thought I was a bloody nightmare analysing every song after each gig....god, what a numpty! ( English, for a complete idiot!). rather than enjoying it, I was thinking too much about it. Clearly as a guitar player, I will always want to improve, but stuff perfection, play from your heart, each note will count. My mate Dino says there is no such thing as wrong note, just a poor choice! This always makes me laugh. Found these on the www and thought I would share it with you!

First blog from Junkyard Preachers, so quite new to this! Anyway, here goes.......Junkyard preachers are a blues and rock and band from Cambridge in the UK..check us out on Junkyard Preachers.com or Facebook, additionally, we have had over 517,000 views on YouTube which we are absolutely chuffed to bits about!

We are getting ready for a gig on Saturday 12th October 2013 - "Bikers for Boobies" this is a charity event to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. it is being held at 

The Academy, Church Farm, Church Road, Barrow, Suffolk, IP29 5AX. 

Junkyard will be playing at 17.00 to 18.30 hours - Come along and support this fantastic event!
